Acquired over more than 6 decades, industrial experience in manufacturing natural gums lies at the very heart of our business.

Tailoring a complex process

Through trial, error and constant improvement, Alland & Robert has acquired a wide-ranging expertise in producing acacia and karaya gum. Production lines have been optimised over the years.

We’ve also continually upgraded our production processes to manufacture tailored products that meet strict client specifications and develop products with specific functional properties or for specific applications.

Exacting safety and sustainability standards are applied across all our manufacturing installations.

Instan soluble & spray-dried gum acacia

Atomization is a physical drying process that transforms a liquid into a powder by evaporating water. Gum acacia nodules are first crushed to facilitate solubilization in warm water. Once the gum is dissolved, the solution undergoes a succession of purification steps for the elimination of insoluble foreign matter. The liquid form makes it possible to apply a pasteurization treatment that ensures the sanitary quality to the finished product. The solution is then injected at the head of the lathe in the form of a spray of fine droplets in a stream of hot air transforming the fine fog into powder particles.

Alland & Robert has built 3 spray drying towers, respectively in 2002, 2007 and 2013. This highly technical equipment provides production of instant soluble and spray dried grades of acacia gum.

High-density gum acacia granules

In 2024, Alland & Robert launched Beyond Acacia®, an innovative range that combines environmental and technical performance based on more than 2 years of R&D. This required us to expand our production facility in Normandy, France, and make major investments to improve energy performance and implement a cutting-edge granulation process.

Beyond Acacia® comprises high-density acacia gum granules offering improved solubility and dispersion capacity, as well as excellent hydration properties – that make the dispersion process more efficient. Producing less foam and particles, the granules also improve fluidity and reduce graininess.

As well as optimised technical characteristics, the range has a lower carbon footprint than standard acacia gum. This energy-efficient production line plays a key role in making our environmental commitments a reality.
